In Year 9...
Lessons continue to follow a Place, Processes, People sequence. PLACE (at different scales) – most students who have attended my More Able Geography clubs and ASAs want to improve their place knowledge, like capital cities and rivers. Also, case studies and a global perspective is important at IGCSE and IB. PROCESSES – based around the middle order thinking and questioning of describe and explain found in IGCSE questions. The topics in this section are mainly part of the IGCSE specification or are particularly topical. PEOPLE – this has a higher order questioning and thinking focus of creating, synthesis and evaluation required at IB. We have decided to do it like this because the lessons are in shorter sequences of 3 or 4 lessons, allowing students to make connections and links between the lessons. Less information is given to students to allow for greater abstract thinking and connection finding. These shorter sequences are easier to keep up to date, for example, when Ebola hit the news, 3 lessons can quickly be created; Where is West Africa? Why did Ebola outbreak originate here? Why is it difficult for people to contain it? |
